What we do

CONAPAC is a Peruvian non-profit organization whose mission is to promote conservation of the rainforest through education of its stewards, the people who live along the Amazon and Napo Rivers. Our centerpiece project is the Adopt-A-School program, which is strengthened by workshops and complemented by service and sustainable projects in river communities.

Community School Kitchens and the Government Nutrition Program

  • CONAPAC is building school kitchens in our partner communities.
  • The Peruvian government has a program called the Qaliwara (a Quechua word meaning “strong child”). This is a supplemental food program that provides all school-aged children a hot breakfast and lunch during the school year. It also focuses on cleanliness through proper food preparation and frequent hand-washing. Each community organizes the parents to prepare and serve this food on school days.
  • In the new kitchens school children have a safe, clean, attractive place to eat balanced meals every school day. Building a new kitchen makes an entire community of kids eligible for the government food program, ensuring a strong diet every school day.
