Teachers and Volunteers at San Pedro de Mangua

Adopt-A-School deliveries 2026

Join us in April for School Supply Deliveries

At the beginning of each Peruvian school year, a partnership between CONAPAC, the Detroit Zoological Society and Amazon Explorama Lodges delivers much-needed school supplies to more than 2,800 students and teachers in remote rainforest communities.

To support all of these programs, the DZS collects donations for CONAPAC from a global donor base of committed and generous individuals who care deeply about the rainforest and the people who live there. The money is transferred down in its entirety, so every penny can go to the intended cause. The DZS also coordinates the two participant volunteer teams for the annual school supply deliveries and community engagement trips at the start of school in Peru.

If you decide to join the first week volunteer team, you’ll spend five full days traveling by boat to schools along the Amazon and Napo rivers. In each village, you’ll be welcomed and will have an opportunity to participate in celebrations of education. Along the way, you’ll witness the rainforest up close, spotting wildlife, exploring the canopy walkway and learning how CONAPAC is expanding access to clean drinking water, nutrition and economic opportunities.

Location: Iquitos + Amazon and Napo River communities
Dates: April 3 - 11, 2027
Cost: $1,950 per person

Community Engagement Week 2026

When One Village Becomes Your World For a Week

During the second Adopt-A-School week, the volunteer team experience is something different from the first week. While the first week is filled with school supply deliveries each day, the volunteers during the second week spend just one day delivering school supplies and then concentrate their time in one community for the rest of the week.

If you decide to join the second week volunteer team, you’ll spend four days rolling up your sleeves in support of projects chosen by a single community to meet a real need.  You will get to know the community members by working side-by-side with them while doing projects like building an outdoor classroom or finishing a school kitchen. Your work will help students and families access education, food and clean drinking water.

No construction experience? No problem. We need painters, organizers, art leaders, cheerleaders and extra hands. Whether you swing a hammer or do hands-on activities with students, there’s a place for you on this team.

Location: Iquitos + Amazon River communities
Dates: April 10 - 18, 2027
Cost: $1,950 / per person
Deposit: $500 by October 31, 2026
Balance Due: December 31, 2026

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and succeed. And it's never too late to add a contribution to help us give them the tools they need. (All donations are received by our partners, the Detroit Zoo; 100% of your donation is transferred directly to CONAPAC.)

Want to donate?

We have several long-time donors and partner organizations who work tirelessly for CONAPAC; with you, we can do so much for our communities.

Our work is only possible with the many other donations, big and small, that we receive throughout the year.
