Adopt-A-School Community Engagement
During the second Adopt-A-School week, we spent our first day completing the final deliveries of school supplies to our CONAPAC partner communities. We then spent four days at Santa Isabel working with the community members to finish the construction of a school kitchen, a children's playground, and an outdoor classroom gazebo (maloca).
The elementary and kindergarten students engaged in environmental education learning activities to strengthen their sense of place and to "see" the forest differently. These activities were led by volunteers and education specialists from the Detroit Zoo. On day four, we celebrated the week's accomplishments with an "humisha", a type of rainforest palm tree piñata, and the kids acted out Rainbow Paiche (aka The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister).
“Working in the communities during week two is one of the best and most rewarding opportunities for volunteers to learn about the culture and people who are part of the CONAPAC Adopt-a-School program.

“This trip was an all-hands-on-deck mission. Everyone from the community stepped up and worked with us building and painting…the kids were also awesome.”

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and succeed. And it's never too late to add a contribution to help us give them the tools they need. (All donations are received by our partners, the Detroit Zoo; 100% of your donation is transferred directly to CONAPAC.)

We have several long-time donors and partner organizations who work tirelessly for CONAPAC; with you, we can do so much for our communities.
Our work is only possible with the many other donations, big and small, that we receive throughout the year.
